Relief from The Heat Available at Area Cooling Centers
Northern Illinois is facing a dangerous weather setup, with heat index values climbing well into the triple digits. Forecasters warn the combination of extreme heat and humidity could quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially for outdoor workers, children, seniors, and pets. Residents are urged to limit time outside, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
Cooling centers are available in Whiteside County. That would include, Sterling Public Library, Sterling City Hall, Whiteside County Health Department, Rock Falls Public Library and Rock Falls Community Room. In Morrison The White County Sheriffs Office and The Odell Public Library
The heat is also helping fuel the risk for severe storms across the region, with damaging winds possibly reaching 70 miles per hour. Power outages and downed trees are possible if storms develop. Keep alerts close and have a safe shelter plan ready.
