John Deere has announced a round of layoffs at its facility in Ankeny, Iowa.

Company officials tell Brownfield approximately 150 production employees at John Deere Des Moines Works will be placed on indefinite layoff effective over April and May. The employees were informed of the decision by factory leadership in meetings last Friday, an official said.

In a statement to Brownfield, John Deere says it “balances the size of its production workforce with the needs of the individual factory to optimize the workforce at each facility.”

The Ankeny site currently has about 1,700 total employees with 1,136 of them working in production and maintenance jobs.
