The Year in Music 2024: Cher finally gets into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

SHARE NOW

In late 2023, Cher said on The Kelly Clarkson Show that she didn’t understand why she hadn’t been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame yet. Having been eligible since 1990, she contended that at that point she wouldn’t be interested in being in it “if they gave me a million dollars.” But before another year had gone by, she was a newly minted Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee.

In Cleveland in October, Cher was inducted into the Hall by Zendaya, who said of the ageless entertainer, “She does it all and, might I add, really, really f****** well.” She and Dua Lipa teamed up for a duet of “Believe,” and then she sang “If I Could Turn Back Time” solo.

In her speech, Cher cracked, “It was easier getting divorced from two men than getting into the RRHOF.” But, she noted, “The one that thing I have never done is I never give up.”

You can watch Cher’s induction and performance Jan. 1  at 8 p.m. ET on ABC’s 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony special, featuring highlights of the October ceremony. It’ll also be available the next day on Hulu and Disney+.

Also in October, Cher headlined the first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show since 2018, singing “Strong Enough” and “Believe.”

In November, Cher debuted her long-awaited autobiography, Cher: The Memoir — Part One, which covers her childhood through the start of her acting career. It was chock-full of tales of her outrageous life: her difficult childhood; her ups and downs with men, including her two late ex-husbands, Sonny Bono and Gregg Allman; and, of course, her music career. It allowed Cher to add “New York Times bestselling author” to her extensive resume; Part Two is due in 2025.

Also in 2024, Cher, 78, continued her relationship with music producer Alexander “AE” Edwards, who’s 38. The two have been linked since 2022 and she’s working with him on a new album, which she said during her book tour in November would “probably be my last.”
