2 Deceased After Saturday Domestic Violence Call (Updated)

UPDATE: In a press conference early Monday morning, Chief Hamer revealed some details of the incident. According to Hamer, officers observed blood in a common area of the complex and heard screams for help coming from inside an apartment upon arriving. After forcibly gaining entry to the residence, officers discovered a 36-year-old woman who had numerous visible injuries and was bleeding from multiple stab wounds. She was removed from the apartment and transported to McDonough District Hospital where she received medical attention.

Officers also encountered a man in the apartment who was armed with a knife. They tried to command the man to drop the knife, but he refused to comply and disappeared out of sight into an adjoining room before reappearing while still armed. Fearing for their safety, an officer discharged one round from their weapon fatally striking the male suspect.

While searching the apartment, officers discovered the body of a deceased child. An autopsy is scheduled for later today which will determine the nature and scope of their injuries.

Hamer reaffirmed that pursuant to department policy, the investigation of this incident is being conducted by the Illinois State Police (ISP) and the McDonough County State’s Attorney and that all inquiries regarding the investigation should be referred to the ISP. An autopsy has been scheduled and medical related questions should be directed to the McDonough County Coroner. Two Macomb Police Officers that were involved in this incident have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy, pending further investigation.


MACOMB, IL – A domestic violence incident in Macomb late Saturday ended with 2 dead.

According to a press release issue by Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer, officer responded to a call of domestic violence around 10:03 p.m. on Saturday evening in the 900 block of North Charles of Macomb.

It was reported that one woman had been stabbed multiple times, escaped, and taken to McDonough District Hospital for treatment.

According to the MPD, an officer did discharge his weapon, and two have been reported deceased as a result of the incident. The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave.

At this time, exact details of the event have not been released but MPD has assured that an investigation into the incident is ongoing and is being handled by the Illinois State Police as per MPD policy. The MPD has referred with further questions to inquire with the Illinois State Police, whom they are cooperating with fully.

A press conference regarding the event is scheduled to be held on Monday morning.
