Spring is here, and with it comes the urge to tackle outdoor home projects. The Illinois Commerce Commission is highlighting a vital safety measure during Safe Digging Month: always dial 811 before starting any digging work. This simple call can prevent the hazardous and potentially costly consequences of striking underground utility lines. Both homeowners and contractors are urged to prioritize safety by ensuring their project sites are checked and cleared. Adhering to this procedure not only safeguards lives and properties but also avoids steep penalties for non-compliance. Let’s dig safely and protect our communities.

“The warmer weather can inspire us get started on home improvement projects, but underground utility lines can be unintentionally damaged during a digging project. Remember to call 811 before you dig for projects of any size,” said ICC Chairman Doug Scott.
