In a boost for public safety across Illinois, nearly a dozen fire departments within the 47th District have secured Small Equipment Grants. State Senator Neil Anderson has announced that these grants total nearly $250,000. Such funding is critical for rural departments traditionally dependent on community events to support their operations. Beneficiaries include the Kewanee Fire Department, Colona Community Fire Protection District, Mineral-Gold Fire Protection District, and more. The Office of the State Fire Marshal received 347 applications, with a cumulative request of $7.7 million, highlighting the significant demand for such crucial support. Colona Community Fire Protection District $21,500
Kewanee Fire Department $21,455.46
Mineral-Gold Fire Protection District $24,991.73
“These grants are extremely important to our small rural departments,” said Senator Anderson. “Oftentimes, these districts rely on fundraising efforts, such as fish fries and pancake breakfasts, to support operations or make much-needed equipment upgrades. I am happy to see nearly $250,000 being invested in public safety.”
