Arson Leads to Arrest of Galesburg Man for Attempted Murder and Sexual Assault

A structure fire in Galesburg leads to the arrest of a Galesburg man for attempted murder and criminal sexual assault.  Around 7:39 AM on August 15, 2024, the Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 243 Highland Avenue. A juvenile was found inside the burning structure. The juvenile was transported to OSF St. Mary Medical Center and later transported to OSF St. Francis Medical center in Peoria. The juvenile is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the Galesburg Fire Department.  Jason D Fielder, 46, was quickly identified as a suspect and was located at 672 Home Blvd.  Fielder was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, and Aggravated Arson. Additional charges are possible.  Fielder is in the custody of the Knox County Jail awaiting his first court appearance.

The Galesburg Police and Fire Departments were assisted by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit, State of Illinois Fire Marshalls Office and the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
