Former Commerce Secretary Bill Daley and former Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood have announced a bipartisan campaign to overhaul how Illinois’ legislative districts are drawn. The two are championing an independent commission aimed at removing partisan politics from the redistricting process. Their plan seeks a constitutional amendment on the 2026 ballot, requiring around 320,000 signatures to qualify. Supporters argue this change will put more power in the hands of Illinois voters and ensure fairer elections. Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie called the initiative a promising step toward addressing gerrymandering and strengthening voter representation in the state.
