A new study by Lightcast reveals Black Hawk College contributed nearly $291 million to the local economy during the 2023-24 fiscal year. College President Dr. Jeremy Thomas emphasized the institution’s ongoing role in economic growth, stating its roots go back almost 80 years. Black Hawk College’s impact extends across nine counties, supporting nearly 3,900 local jobs and educating over 8,000 students in more than 85 programs. Alumni employment produces over $254 million in local income. Nearly all graduates remain in the area, ensuring workforce development investments directly benefit the region and drive long-term community strength.
“This report makes clear that Black Hawk College is more than a place of learning,” said Dr. Jeremy Thomas, President of Black Hawk College.
“For nearly 80 years, we have been a driver of economic growth in our region. When we invest in our students, we are investing in our workforce, our employers, and the long-term strength of our communities,” he said.
Nearly 600 faculty and staff members, over 8,000 students served, and a 9 percent enrollment jump all point to BHC’s growing impact. Most graduates remain in the area, helping to sustain a skilled workforce. For every dollar invested, students see $3.50 in future earnings—boosting local prosperity and community strength.
“Black Hawk College grew by 9 percent from 2024-25 because more students are making BHC their first college of choice. That growth reflects our role as a driver of opportunity for our students, our workforce and our region,” he said.
