Teachers across Bureau County have a fresh opportunity to bring agriculture into their classrooms. The Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation is rolling out agricultural literacy grants, targeting educators from Pre-K through eighth grade. The first initiative offers awards of up to $1,000 focused on capital improvements, with a stipulation that no more than 30% of funds go toward consumable supplies. These grants are intended to help classrooms purchase long-lasting agricultural resources. The second grant provides up to $500 for supplies or materials, and these funds may be used entirely for consumable items. Applications can be accessed online, and interested teachers should note the February 28th deadline. The Foundation hopes these grants will spark student interest in agriculture and help weave practical, hands-on learning about farming and food systems into regular lessons throughout area schools.

Grants are now available to support programs such as classroom incubators, butterfly labs, pollinator plots, and even field trips focused on farming. Funds can also be used to introduce agriculture-themed books, host guest speakers, or create classroom gardens and pet corners. These initiatives are designed to help students better understand the vital role of agriculture in daily life.

The Bureau County Farm Bureau reminds community members that the application deadline for the spring cycle is quickly approaching on February 28th. Submissions received after this date will not be reviewed and must be resubmitted during the next cycle. Applications and detailed guidelines are available on their website, www.bureaucountyfarmbureau.org. For any questions or assistance with the process, contact the Bureau County Farm Bureau office at (815) 875-6468 or by email at [email protected]. Don’t miss this chance if you’re looking to apply—mark your calendars and submit your materials on time.
