Bushnell Teens Arrested For Murder

UPDATE: On June 7, 2023, Patricia Purden and the female juvenile made their first appearance at the McDonough County Courthouse. Patricia Purden’s bond was set at $75,000, 10% to apply. The female juvenile will be held with no bond.


BUSHNELL, IL – Two Bushnell teens were arrested on Monday for the murder of a Bushnell man.

According to reports,  the Illinois State Police conducted a death investigation on Friday in the 600 block of Osbourne Street in Bushnell. During the investigation, Travis Purden, 43, of Bushnell, was discovered deceased in his residence with multiple gunshot wounds.  After a thorough and extensive investigation, including reviewing surveillance camera footage and conducting interviews, Davin M. Purden, 18, and Nicholas C. Lafary, 17, both of Bushnell, were identified as suspects.

Arrest warrants were issued for D. Purden and Lafary on Sunday, and the two were taken into custody on Monday, charged with First-Degree Murder (Class M Felony) and were lodged in the McDonough County Jail. Purden was given a $2,000,000 bond, 10% to apply.  Lafary was charged as an adult and also given a $2,000,000 bond, 10% to apply.

Patricia J. Purden, 37, of Bushnell, IL, and a 17-year-old juvenile female were also taken into custody for Obstructing Justice, awaiting a bond hearing.

No further information will be released at this time.  This is an active and ongoing investigation.
