Congratulations are in order for the Spring 2025 graduates of the Highway Construction Careers Training Program at Black Hawk College. Fourteen students, representing communities across Iowa and Illinois, completed the intensive 13-week course, with seven earning perfect attendance. Preston Cartwright, Hector Galvan, Troy Humphery, Colton Menke, Armando Rosas, Nicholas Stephens, and Michael Walton had perfect attendance for the 13-week class.
The Illinois Department of Transportation’s Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) aims to expand job opportunities for minorities, women, and disadvantaged individuals in the construction field. Hosted by Black Hawk College, this intensive 450-hour course is tuition-free for selected participants, who will also earn a $15 per hour stipend during training. The program boasts one of the state’s top placement rates—67 percent of recent Black Hawk graduates have entered construction apprenticeships. Colton Menke, a recent graduate, joined the Electrical Workers immediately after completing the program. The next session starts August 11, 2025, with orientation dates set for June 24, June 26, July 8, and July 11.
Orientation details and application information are available by calling 309-796-5729 or by visiting www.bhc.edu/hcctp.
