Child Injured in Peoria Shooting Incident, Police Seek Information

In a distressing incident in Peoria’s RiverWest neighborhood, a 9-year-old boy was shot in the chest Sunday night. Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert around 8:31 PM on February 2, 2025, in the 1300 block of SW Phoenix, where residents reported suspects in dark clothing attempting to break into a vehicle. When confronted, one suspect fired a shot, which struck the child inside a nearby residence. Officers administered emergency aid before the boy was transported to a hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Authorities are seeking information and surveillance footage.
