    Peak afternoon heat indices between 95 to around 100 degrees.
    WHERE
    Portions of north central, northwest, and west central Illinois, east central, northeast, and southeast Iowa, and northeast Missouri.
    WHEN
    From 10 AM this morning to 8 PM CDT Tuesday.
    IMPACTS
    Hot temperatures and humid conditions may cause heat illnesses.
    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Overnight temperatures in the 70s will provide little relief for those without air conditioning.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Children’s Safety Expo 2024 on August 17th at the Blackhawk Education Center in Kewanee

Join Senator Neil Anderson and Representative Travis Weaver for the 2024 Children’s Safety Expo on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 9:30 AM to noon in the Blackhawk College Education Center parking lot. Admission to the event is free, and there will be free refreshments and giveaways. The City of Kewanee will have city equipment on display for the event.  The Blackhawk Education Center is located at 404 E 3rd Street, Kewanee.

Tables with information and resources will be available for families, along with hands-on activities for the kids.  There will be demonstrations every 30 minutes, and “Touch a Truck” allows kids to see and sit on numerous types of vehicles. A Med Force helicopter will land at 9:30 AM.
