    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Heat impacts will be worsened by several consecutive days of sweltering temperatures. Additionally, there will be little relief overnight with near record warm lows forecast in the mid to upper 70s.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

City of Galesburg Aquatic Facilities Open for the Summer on May 25, 2024

The City of Galesburg is opening its aquatic facilities for the summer season on Saturday, May 25, 2024, in time for Memorial Day Weekend.  The city offers splash pads, wading pools, Lake Storey Beach, and Lakeside Waterpark.

Lakeside Water Park – 1033 South Lake Storey Road

Lakeside Water Park will open for the summer season on Saturday, May 25, 2024, and includes two pools, a 122 ft. body flume slide, a 30 ft. tube slide, and an 8 ft. kiddie slide, along with additional water play features. The daily entry fee is $8, and multi-pass punch cards and memberships are also available. More information on hours, rates, and amenities can be found on the city’s website.

Lake Storey Beach and Park – 1572 Machen Drive

Lake Storey Beach is open for swimming and boating from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Lake Storey Beach is an unguarded “swim at your own risk” facility, with no lifeguards present. The beach and locker room facilities are open from 8 AM to 7 PM daily. Swimming is only permitted during the listed open hours, and only in the designated roped-off area. Boat rentals are available from 12:00 to 7 PM. More information on Lake Storey Beach and boat rentals can be found on the city’s website.

Personal canoes, kayaks, jon boats, and small sailboats may be utilized on the lake for free. The City of Galesburg only allows electric trolling motors on Lake Storey, gas-power motors may not be used. Kayak launches are available at the beach or east boat ramp. Lake Storey Park also offers outdoor exploration with wooded trails and a paved multi-use path for walking and biking.

Wading Pools and Splash Pads

The City of Galesburg offers free wading pools and splash pads at several parks, which are also set to open Memorial Day weekend. Wading pools are located at Lincoln Park, O.N. Custer Park, and H.T. Custer Park. Splash pads are available at Rotary Park and Kiwanis Park. More information on the City of Galesburg parks and the amenities available at each can be found on the city’s website.
