City of Kewanee Eliminates Red Tag Phase for Overdue Water Bills

SHARE NOW

On August 26, 2024, the Kewanee City Council voted to approve changes to the water billing process that will eliminate the need for city staff to visit residences to place the red tags for late payment on water bills. The Council has eliminated the ‘RED TAG’ phase, known for causing undue stress, with a $15 penalty fee. Residents will now have a 10-day window to settle their bills once a penalty is incurred, simplifying the process considerably. Make sure to check the right side of your water bill for all due dates and essential information to avoid any service interruptions. This streamlined approach aims to provide financial relief and clarity to the community on utility billing issues. There is no longer a second red tax notice before the water service is disconnected.
