The City of Kewanee has announced the closure of the temporary storm debris collection site at the cemetery and old hospital parking lot. Most debris is now unrelated to the storm, so residents are reminded to use the City Brush Collection Program for non-storm-related debris. The final cleanup at the hospital site is expected by the end of the week, with the aim of completing all storm debris collection before the Thanksgiving holiday. “We truly appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience in using the cemetery and hospital sites over the past 12 weeks since the tornado. Your support has been invaluable during this challenging time.”
The City of Kewanee asks residents to separate storm debris and brush for the brush collection program to expedite the collection process. The city will prioritize storm debris collection. “We understand that some storm debris remains at the hospital site and on the rights-of-way. The hospital site is expected to be cleaned by the end of the week, after which the City, along with IDOT, will continue to collect storm debris from the rights-of-way. We expect to complete storm debris collection before the Thanksgiving holiday, barring any unexpected issues.”
