SHARE NOW

The Princeton Public Library announces a series of community programs for September. Highlights include a book club discussion on ‘The Frozen River’ on September 12th, a storytelling workshop with Dr. Ada Cheng on September 19th, and a blood drive on September 24th. Additional events include a painting class on September 25th and the monthly Writer’s Club meeting on September 27th. These events offer opportunities for community engagement and personal development. All programs are open to the public, with some requiring prior registration.

Thursday, September 12th at 5 pm
The Princeton Public Library is hosting Page Turner’s monthly book club meeting. This month’s read, “The Frozen River” by Ariel Lawhon, is a gripping historical mystery inspired by the life of Martha Ballard, a renowned 18th-century midwife who defied the legal system and wrote herself into American history. Join us and share your thoughts on this literary work for September’s read. This meeting is free to attend, and all are welcome.

Thursday, September 19th, 6 pm
Join us Thursday, Sept. 19 for a free program with Princeton Public Library and Illinois Humanities, Dr. Ada Cheng. This eclectic presentation will map out Dr. Cheng’s journey as an Asian American immigrant storyteller and delineate how her personal stories reflect and mirror the urgent social concerns of our time. This workshop aims at providing community builders the foundational skill set to build intimate communities through storytelling, with the following questions: Why is storytelling important to our understanding of personal and collective experiences? How can we use personal stories to critically reflect urgent social issues of our time, such as racism, xenophobia, gender-based violence, etc.? What does community-based storytelling mean? How do we use personal storytelling for collective identity formation and community engagement? How can we strategically use storytelling to address the issue of equity, beyond diversity and inclusion? This program is free and all are welcome to attend.

Tuesday, September 24th, 3 to 7:30 pm
Donate blood at our monthly blood drive by ImpactLife at the Princeton Public Library. To register for this event, go to www.bloodcenter.org. Walk-ins are welcome. Many variables can impact our blood inventories, such as weather, holidays, or tragic events. Every day, patients who need blood are in crisis and you can help by volunteering to donate. Less than 10% of the population gives blood, so donors who give on a regular basis are important to meet these needs. Schedule an appointment today. Give and get a choice of a gift card, a donation to Make-a-Wish IL, or bonus points to the rewards store!

Wednesday, September 25th, 5 to 8 pm
Join Melody Best as she shares and demonstrates awesome painting lessons to improve your painting skills. All materials will be provided (one of the tips you will be learning) while you explore how to use them. This class is for the beginner and those who are frustrated with their slow progress in the wonderful medium of watercolor. The cost for this class is $30 and covers materials and instruction. There is limited space available (15 seats) so RSVP as soon as possible! Do not miss out! To reserve your seat, you can call 815-875-1331 or stop by the circulation desk inside the Princeton Public Library.

Friday, September 27th, 4:30 pm
The monthly Writer’s Club meeting will take place on September 27th at 4:30 pm at the Princeton Public Library. This group votes to decide the type of writing they will focus on for the following month. Writers are encouraged to share their work, receive constructive criticism, and share any knowledge about the writing process. Participation in publishing contests with prizes is also encouraged. This program is free and all are welcome to attend.
