MACOMB, IL – McDonough District Hospital (MDH) announced Tuesday evening that embattled Chief Executive Officer Brian Dietz has chosen to step down effective February 20, 2024.
In a press release issued by MDH VP Patrick Osterman, the hospital wished Brian well in his future, in addition to announcing the MDH Board’s decision to extend interim President/CEO Bill Murdock as a search begins to find a permanent replacement for that position.
Dietz’s stewardship as CEO came under fire from hospital staff in late December 2023 amidst a multitude of anonymous letters sent to board members and Macomb civic leaders, citing concerns of employee morale at the hospital and the departure of many long-time employees. Many of the letters cited an untenable and toxic work environment, reckless hospital spending, and a sudden 41% increase in premiums for hospital employees. The letters remained anonymous due to fear of retaliation by Dietz. The MDH Board suspended Dietz as they performed an investigation into these claims, Dietz was suspended as these claims were investigated, and Murdock was named interim CEO during that time.
