The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will begin resurfacing work on Interstate 80 in Bureau County on Monday, March 11, 2024.  Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, and traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes to allow patchwork and resurfacing of the eastbound lanes.  This work is part of the IDOT’s two-year, $36.8 million construction project on nearly 10 miles of Interstate 80 in Bureau County.  The work will run between the Henry/Bureau County line and Illinois Highway 40 (exit 45). This project will include repairs to some bridges and culverts in the work zone through the late fall of 2024.  Construction will begin on the eastbound lanes in the spring of 2025.  The entirety of the project is expected to finish in the late fall of 2025.

Pavement removal and replacement on the exit ramps at the Illinois Highway 40 interchange was completed in the fall of 2023.  Motorists should expect delays and allow extra time for travel in the construction area.  Be prepared for slow-moving or stopped traffic.  The use of an alternate route is recommended if possible.  Drivers are advised to pay close attention in the work zone, watch for workers, obey the posted speed limits, and not use mobile devices in the work zone.
