Equipment Malfunction Causes Fire In Adair

ADAIR, IL – Firefighter crews responded Thursday evening to a call of a fire at Western Grain Marketing in Adair.

According to reports, it was determined that one of the elevated conveyer belt system motors had malfunctioned and had caught fire. Crews managed to get the fire under control, but had to dismantle the conveyer system to get to the seat of the fire before it could be fully extinguished around 3 a.m.

New Salem Fire Protection District handled the situation, with aid provided by five on-duty and five off-duty Macomb firefighters, as well as on-scene assistance from Bushnell Fire Department and the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office.
