Congressman Eric Sorensen of Illinois’ 17th District, a major agricultural hub, has been reappointed to the House Committee on Agriculture for his second term. With this role, he will serve on two pivotal subcommittees: the General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit Subcommittee, as well as the Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology Subcommittee. These positions strengthen his capacity to advocate for the district’s nearly 6,500 farms that are crucial in producing essential crops like corn and soybeans. Sorensen aims to enhance crop insurance, open new markets for local produce, and implement sustainable agricultural practices, leveraging his background in meteorology to address the challenges of changing weather patterns and ensuring the longevity of farming resources. This strategic alignment on the committee underscores a continued commitment to supporting the agricultural community and rural development in Illinois.

“Representing the hardworking farmers and rural families of Illinois’ 17th District—the capital of agriculture—is an incredible honor,” said Sorensen. ” This seat gives me the chance to champion priorities on the House Agriculture Committee like working to secure crop insurance, opening new markets for our corn and soybeans, and protecting the land and resources that make our region a leader in agriculture.”
