Congressman Eric Sorensen of Illinois’ 17th District has been appointed to the House Armed Services Committee with additional roles on the Subcommittee on Readiness and the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces. These positions bolster his capacity to support the Rock Island Arsenal and the Peoria Air National Guard Base, crucial to both national defense and the local economy. Sorensen, leveraging nearly two decades of experience as a TV meteorologist and recent political engagement, aims to secure necessary resources and investments to enhance military operations and infrastructure at these facilities. His efforts will focus on strengthening America’s military readiness and supporting the local community through sustained defense initiatives.

“Illinois’ 17th District is home to the Rock Island Arsenal and the 182nd Airlift Wing at the Peoria Air National Guard Base—both of which are vital to our national defense and the backbone of our local economy,” said Sorensen. “These subcommittee assignments allow me to ensure these installations get the resources, support, and investments they need to continue their critical missions. I’m proud to fight for our service members, civilian workers, and military families here in Illinois.”

“As a trusted TV meteorologist for nearly 20 years and Member of Congress since 2023, Congressman Sorensen brings a truly unique and valuable set of skills to the House Armed Services Committee. His representation of the historic Rock Island Arsenal on the Mississippi River and the 182nd Airlift Wing at the Peoria Air National Guard base will be equally important in informing the committee’s work on behalf of service members, military families, and civilian workers,” said Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee. “I look forward to working together in the 119th Congress.”
