Illinois Congressman Eric Sorensen is backing two bipartisan bills designed to expand support for military families. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Sorensen is co-sponsoring the National Guard & Reserve Student Loan Fairness Act, which would make Guard members and reservists eligible for federal student loan forgiveness programs. He’s also supporting the Health Care Fairness for Military Families Act, aiming to allow children of TRICARE beneficiaries to remain on their parents’ military health insurance until age 26. Sorensen says these steps will lower costs for thousands of families and ease financial stress on those serving our country.
“America’s servicemembers, like the rest of the country, are dealing with the same high costs my neighbors tell me is their number one issue,” said Congressman Sorensen. “My biggest priority is bringing down the cost of living for all Americans and these bipartisan bills will help put thousands of dollars back in the pockets of our servicemembers who shouldn’t be burdened with financial stress on top of their already challenging jobs. I’m proud to use my new position on the House Armed Services Committee to help advance legislation that supports the brave men and women who serve our country at home and abroad.”
Congressman Sorensen is pushing for expanded health care benefits for military families by co-sponsoring the bipartisan Health Care Fairness for Military Families Act. This measure would allow children of TRICARE beneficiaries to remain on their parents’ insurance plans until age 26, matching rules for private insurance and potentially saving military households over $8,700 annually. As a new member of the House Armed Services Committee, Sorensen is also championing the Rock Island Arsenal and the 182nd Airlift Wing in Illinois. His recent efforts include bringing U.S. Army leadership to the Arsenal and securing key victories in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act.
