Fire at A Residence in Galesburg on Friday Claims the Life of a Bearded Dragon, No Other Injuries

On April 28, 2024, the Galesburg Fire Department tackled a severe fire at a residence on 914 Hawkinson Avenue. The incident occurred around 9 AM and drew a swift response from three stations with 11 fire personnel. Flames and smoke were visible upon their arrival, and efforts to extinguish the fire were initiated immediately. The fire, which caused an estimated $18,000 in damage, was later found to be accidental. Sadly, the homeowner’s bearded dragon perished in the blaze, though their dog escaped and their cat was found unharmed. An emergency callback was also issued to ensure city-wide coverage. No human injuries were reported.
