Firefighters Rescue Resident in Galesburg House Fire but Two Cats Didn’t Survive

A fire broke out at 1025 Lincoln Street in Galesburg today at 11:42 AM, drawing a response from all three city fire stations and 12 on-duty personnel. Smoke and flames were visible from a first-floor window when Battalion Chief Dewey Brackett arrived. Firefighters entered the structure and rescued one victim, who was transported to OSF St. Mary Medical Center by GHAS. Sadly, two cats were also found inside, but emergency resuscitation attempts were not successful. After extinguishing the blaze, investigators determined the fire was unintentional, with significant structural damage reported.
