    IMPACTS
    The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Former Illinois Deputy Charged with Death of Teen Jackson Kradle

A former Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputy, 44-year-old Matthew Herpstreith, is now facing serious charges following an Illinois State Police investigation into the death of 18-year-old Jackson Kradle. On July 28, 2024, Kradle was found dead on Illinois Route 78 near Mount Carroll. Herpstreith has been charged with Reckless Homicide (Class 3), Reckless Conduct (Class 4), Obstructing Justice (Class 4), Attempt Obstructing Justice (Class A), and one count of Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident (Class P). He has been granted pre-trial release and is scheduled to appear in court on April 17, 2025, at 1:30 PM, at the Carroll County Courthouse. The Office of the State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor is handling the case.
