Illinois State Police (ISP) continue their investigation into a tragic crash that occurred on April 28 at the YNOT After School Camp in Chatham. A vehicle driven by Marianne Akers, 44, left the roadway, traveled through a field, and drove through the camp building, resulting in the deaths of four children: Ainsley Johnson, 8; Kathryn Corley, 7; Alma Buhnerkempe, 7—all from Chatham—and Rylee Britton, 18, of Springfield. Preliminary toxicology reports for Akers are negative for alcohol and drugs, and officials note a possible medical emergency may have contributed. Officers impacted by the tragedy are receiving support services. The investigation remains ongoing. ISP Director, Brendan Kelly, said they are moving as fast as they can with the investigation.
