Free Farmland Tax and Assessment Seminars with Rep. Swanson and Farm Bureaus

Farmers seeking clarity on farmland assessments and property taxes have a new resource next week. Representative Dan Swanson, together with local Farm Bureaus, will offer free seminars in the region on September 2 and 3, 2025. Sessions are set for four locations, starting in Moline and Galesburg, then continuing in Monmouth and Macomb. Brenda Matherly of the Illinois Farm Bureau will lead explanations on assessment calculations and their property tax implications. Open to all farmland owners, agricultural lenders, and farm managers.

“As a farmer myself I am well aware of the impact that increased farmland assessments and their effect on property taxes can have on farmers,” Swanson said. “The purpose of these seminars is to help our local farmers, get the facts they need to understand this system and what it means for them.”

On Tuesday, September 2, sessions take place at 1 PM at the Moline Public Library and 3 PM at the Knox County Farm Bureau in Galesburg. The following day, Wednesday, September 3, stops include the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau in Monmouth at 8:30 AM and the Spoon River College Outreach Center in Macomb at 11 AM. Attendees will discover how assessments are calculated and the long-term effects on their land. Registration is available through Rep. Swanson’s office at (309) 334-7474 or the Henry County Farm Bureau at (309) 937-2411.
