Galesburg Announces New Energy Rates with Aggregation Contract with Constellation Energy

SHARE NOW

Galesburg residents and small businesses will soon receive letters from Constellation outlining the community’s municipal energy aggregation contract. The new agreement secures a fixed electricity rate of 10.89 cents per kilowatt hour, in effect from July 2025 through June 2026. Enrollment in this program happens automatically unless a resident chooses to opt out. While this change affects how electricity is supplied, Ameren will continue handling the delivery of electricity to homes and businesses in Galesburg. This update aims to ensure energy cost stability for participants. Residents are encouraged to review their options when the letter arrives.

“The energy aggregation contract that ran from July 2021 to May 2024 saved Galesburg residents a total of $8,512,826, or on average $593 per household, when compared with the standard utility rate. While energy prices have increased, resulting in a higher rate for the current contract, it is anticipated that obtaining a set rate for this contract will once again prove beneficial for citizens. However, citizens always have the option to return to the utility or opt for a contract with an alternative supplier.”

The City warns about potential solicitations from other energy suppliers, emphasizing that those companies are not part of the municipal program and may not match the fixed rates or assurances of Constellation. Regardless of the supplier, Ameren remains the electricity delivery provider and will handle all outages and emergency service requests for Galesburg customers.
