The City of Galesburg is gearing up for a transformative new chapter with the groundbreaking ceremony of Cooke Park at 652 W. Second Street, on the former site of Cooke Elementary School. Scheduled for September 23rd at 11 AM, the event signals major investment in neighborhood revitalization and recreation. Funding includes a $500,000 OSLAD grant, a $250,000 state initiative from Senator Halpin, and significant community contributions, making a splashpad possible. Park features will include a playground with accessible equipment, walking paths, a picnic shelter, restrooms, parking, and native plantings, aiming to create an inclusive and vibrant space for residents.

“We are thrilled to break ground on this important project that will bring new recreational opportunities to our community,” said Don Miles, Director of Parks & Recreation. “Thanks to the support of the OSLAD Grant, Senator Halpin and our residents, we can transform this vacant property into a vibrant community space.”
