The City of Galesburg Fire Department will begin its annual fire hydrant testing and flushing program starting September 9, 2025. Crews will focus on hydrants in the city’s southeast quadrant, working weekdays between 8 AM and 4 PM over three weeks, weather permitting. The maintenance ensures all hydrants are ready for emergencies and helps to flush mineral deposits from water mains, aiming to improve water quality. Residents may observe brief drops in water pressure or discolored water—both temporary side effects of the process. Drivers should remain cautious near crews and watch for water accumulation on roadways.
