Firefighters in Galesburg were honored today at Central Station during the department’s Annual Firefighter Awards Ceremony, celebrating exceptional service in 2024. Among the recipients, Fire Captain Kyle Harms, alongside firefighters Josh Webber and Kyle McGee, received the Unit Citation Award. The commendation recognized their swift, heroic actions during a structure fire last year, where they rescued residents trapped on both a balcony and inside an apartment. They’ll be honored later at the 32nd Annual Firefighting Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony in Springfield, with the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Firefighter Unit Citation Award

Fire Captain Justin Moffitt and firefighters Tyler Brackett and Nick Morrissey were similarly honored for saving a woman trapped in a basement. They’ll be honored later at the 32nd Annual Firefighting Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony in Springfield with the OSFM Firefighter Excellence Award. Morrissey was further named the 2024 Firefighter of the Year, thanks to his dedication to training, water and ice rescue programs, and mentorship within the department. His leadership continues to set a standard for firefighters across the region. “Firefighter Morrissey exemplifies what all fire departments hope to see in their members.”
