Galesburg residents can expect some relief on their electric bills next year. The city’s energy aggregation program has secured a fixed rate of 10.89 cents per kilowatt-hour, effective from July 2025 through June 2026. Ameren’s default energy rate is set at 12.539 cents per kilowatt-hour, effective June 2025. The collective buying power of aggregation has proven to yield a lower rate for citizens. This new rate comes in around 13% lower compared to Ameren’s default offering, aiming to give households a more affordable option. Enrollment in this program is automatic, but those who prefer to make other choices remain free to opt out at any point. City officials encourage residents to review their options and contact the city with any questions about the new pricing plan.
“While municipalities do not directly benefit from residential energy aggregation, it is a service we are pleased to provide our citizens as it has historically benefited residents with electrical cost savings,” said Eric Hanson, City Manager. “The opt-out program, established by voters in 2012, has been a convenient and effective way for the majority of citizens to enjoy these benefits.”
Regardless of who supplies the power, Ameren remains responsible for delivering electricity and billing residents. All Galesburg users should continue to contact Ameren for outages, service calls, and emergencies.
