In Galesburg, authorities are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred on South Cherry Street late on the evening of July 6, 2024. Mario D Washington, 45, suffered a gunshot wound following what appears to have been a personal dispute. Officers provided lifesaving treatment until medical personnel could arrive. Emergency responders rushed Washington to a local hospital for treatment. Washington was taken to OSF St Francis in Peoria for further treatment, and he remains in the hospital at this time. Local police reassure residents that there is no ongoing threat to the community, but they urge witnesses or anyone with information to come forward as charges are pending in connection with the shooting.
