The Illinois Farm Bureau recently celebrated its County Awards of Excellence at the Annual Meeting in Chicago, spotlighting innovative agricultural outreach programs. Among this year’s honorees, Henry County’s Legislator “Adopt an Acre” initiative stood out in the Advocacy category. This program paired a local legislator with a Henry County corn and soybean farm, fostering hands-on education throughout the growing season. The farmer-owner shared regular cell phone video updates, detailing crop management, modern technology, and daily challenges. IFB officials praised the effort’s impact on building legislative understanding of agriculture. Plans are underway to expand the initiative to include more crops next year.
