The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has released the outcomes of its latest traffic enforcement initiative under the Federal Fiscal Year 2025 Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). On February 27th, deputies carried out 60 traffic stops, issuing 47 citations and executing multiple arrests, including those for driving with a suspended license, one warrant arrest, and one resisting arrest. The operation targeted behaviors like impaired and distracted driving, speeding, and seat belt violations. Chief Deputy Ben Franklin emphasized the aim of these actions: enhancing road safety and discouraging dangerous driving habits. This initiative is funded through federal highway safety grants from the Illinois Department of Transportation, supporting a broader statewide safety campaign.
“The goal of this enforcement was to make our roads safer for everyone,” said Chief Deputy Ben Franklin. “By focusing on the leading causes of crashes – such as speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving and failure to wear seat belts– we aimed to save lives and remind drivers that violating traffic laws will not be tolerated.”
