In Springfield, the Department of Veterans Affairs is set to host the annual Gold Star Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Scheduled for December 9th at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library, this event honors Illinois veterans who have fallen in combat. The ceremony will feature remarks from IDVA Director Terry Prince and Major General Rodney Boyd. Gold Star Families will decorate the tree with personalized ornaments to remember and reflect on the sacrifices of their loved ones.
