House Fire Results In Death Of Dallas City Man

DALLAS CITY, IL – A residential house fire on Saturday morning resulted in the death of a Dallas City man.

According to a release issued by Hancock County Sheriff Travis Duffy, the Dallas City Rural Fire Protection unit was dispatched to a residential house fire at 180 West Second Street.

When crews arrived on scene, the structure of the house was heavily involved. While the fight against the fire began,  responders managed to get inside and located a person who was already deceased.

After the fire had been deemed extinguished and under control, an investigation was opened into the cause of the fire and the death. Following an autopsy, it was determined that the victim, Lonnie E. Lewis, 74, had died of carbon monoxide and smoke inhalation.

The fire remains under investigation, no foul play is suspected to have occurred.
