Highway 34 south of Kewanee was closed Friday night for an accident investigation after a bicyclist was struck by a vehicle and died from injuries sustained in the accident. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office released preliminary information about the accident and informed motorists of the extended closure of the road near 3342 Highway 34/78.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the bicyclist was transported by ambulance to OSF Saint Luke Medical Center, where they died from their injuries. The driver and passenger in the vehicle declined medical attention at the scene. The names of the people involved in the accident have not been released at this time. More information will be released following the completion of the accident reconstruction.
Update: The road was reopened sometime after 3:30 AM.
