Illinois Department of Transportation is warning drivers to watch for pavement failures during extreme heat and humidity

Extreme heat and humidity across Illinois are creating more than just health concerns. The Illinois Department of Transportation is warning drivers to watch for pavement failures, including buckling and blowouts, which can happen with little warning during prolonged hot weather.

IDOT crews are monitoring roads and standing by for emergency repairs, but drivers should be prepared for sudden uneven pavement, slowing traffic, and work zones. Officials remind motorists to move over for crews and emergency responders.

Pavement problems can be reported to IDOT at 800-452-4368 or to law enforcement through 911. Drivers are also urged to carry extra water in case they become stranded.
