Illinois residents can now enjoy the convenience of renewing their driver’s licenses or purchasing vehicle stickers while grocery shopping, thanks to new “Fast-Lane” DMV kiosks. Secretary Alexi Giannoulias has announced the launch of these kiosks at select Mariano’s, Jewel-Osco, Kroger, and Meijer stores across the state. This pilot program aims to modernize the DMV experience by offering quick, two-minute transactions without the hassle of waiting in line at traditional DMV offices. This initiative not only saves time but also extends service availability to those with limited internet access or restrictive schedules. For more details on locations and services, visit the Illinois Secretary of State’s website.
“Fast-Lane kiosks offer added convenience for Illinois drivers who now have the ability to renew their driver’s license or purchase a vehicle sticker while they’re running errands or buying their groceries,” said Giannoulias, who announced the program at the Mariano’s in the West Loop. “This is a big step in our ongoing effort to modernize the office and enable Illinoisans to obtain more services online and remotely without having to visit a DMV.”
“At Mariano’s we are always looking for innovative ways to serve our customers, and these kiosks offer incredible convenience. We are excited to launch this initiative with Secretary of State’s Office at our stores, which will create excitement for our shoppers,” said Michael Marx, Division President, Roundy’s and Mariano’s.
Residents can review driver’s licenses and state identification cards and purchase vehicle stickers at the kiosks, which have an average transaction time of two minutes. The Secretary of State’s office intends to add more services once the pilot program is expanded.
The kiosks will print vehicle registration stickers for customers immediately on-site. Customers seeking a driver’s license or state ID card renewal will receive a temporary document at the kiosk to use while their new card is mailed to them within 15 business days.
New applicants for driver or vehicle services, including those applying for a REAL ID, will still be required to make an in-person DMV visit to ensure proper identity verification is conducted.
