Illinois State Police have released body camera footage following an officer-involved shooting in La Salle on March 30th, 2025. Police responded to a report of a suicidal man armed with a handgun on Chartres Street. Daniel W. Curtin Sr., 72, fired several times, including out of a window at officers, before ultimately pointing a weapon at police. Negotiations lasted over ninety minutes before Curtin pointed a weapon at officers, prompting police to fire. Despite first aid, Curtin was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers or nearby residents were injured. The LaSalle County State’s Attorney has declined to file charges, and Curtin’s family reviewed the video prior to its public release.
