Illinois Valley Community College Celebrates Retirees and Unveils Future Plans

Illinois Valley Community College recently celebrated notable achievements at its latest board meeting. Five dedicated individuals were honored with emeritus status, including the late Dr. Mary Margaret Weeg, who was lauded for her substantial contributions. A new Master Facilities Plan, aiming to enhance the college’s infrastructure, received approval and outlines significant expansions to meet growing educational needs. In addition, Amber Fox assumed the role of Dean of Natural Sciences and Business, bringing a fresh perspective to the institution. The vibrant agriculture program continues to flourish, aspiring to establish IVCC as a leader in agricultural education and practices.

Plaques were presented to faculty members Mary Sue Myers, Dr. Mary Margaret Weeg (posthumously), and adjunct faculty Gene Montgomery; administrator Lou Borio and staff member Jeanne Hayden.

“The Ag Complex will not only enhance educational opportunities for students, but also serve as a hub for research, innovation, and community engagement in agriculture practices,” Morris said. In other action, the Board:

  • Nominated the following for Illinois Community College Trustees Association awards: OSF Healthcare, Business/Industry Partnership award; student Ashton Watkins, Gregg Chadwick Student Service Scholarship; Samantha Whiteaker, Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Member Award and Donald Leynaud, Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Member Award.
  • Learned of a change order to the CTC audio-visual technology upgrade project that will lower the cost of the project by $45,000, bringing the contract to $278,600.
  • Acknowledged the reappointments of non-tenured faculty for 2025-2026 including: Rebecca Caldwell, Early Childhood Education instructor; Michele Cheshareck, nursing instructor; Juliana Dzurisin, CNA instructor/program coordinator; Kora Jones, dental assisting instructor and Greg Whightsil, industrial maintenance and electricity instructor.
  • Learned of the appointments of Susan Weber, accounting clerk-payables/cashier and John Bratkovich, custodian.
  • Learned of the resignations of Dr. Sammy Kumar, CNA instructor and Lydia Huey, assistant women’s soccer coach, and the retirement of Lynn Moore.
