In recognition of National Cervical Health Awareness Month, the Henry and Stark County Health Departments, alongside First Choice, are urging the community to prioritize women’s health. Every year, thousands of women are affected by cervical cancer, a largely preventable disease with regular screenings and the HPV vaccine. Health officials highlight that regular Pap tests and early vaccination can drastically reduce the incidence of this disease. Approximately 12,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer, and more than 4,000 die as a result in the U.S. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control & Prevention) reports that half of cervical cancer occurs among women who are rarely or never screened for cervical cancer. First Choice Clinics in Kewanee, Colona, and Toulon offer comprehensive services, including HPV vaccinations and screenings. Early detection remains a key factor, with a nearly 100 percent cure rate if caught early. For more details or to schedule a screening, contact your local health provider.
