A juvenile Bald Eagle stuck in a waste treatment sludge pond in Peoria returned to the wild on Saturday. Miss Athena was rescued from a sledge pond, also known as human waste, and was transported to Tammy Yarger at the Hog Capitol Wildlife Rescue and Rehab. She got a bath and medication in May
2024, and an evaluation followed after she was clean and dry. She was released on Saturday, July 13, 2024, during the class reunion for Wyanet Schools. The school is no longer standing, but it will always be the Wyanet Eagles to them. Miss Athena was ready to go and flew out of the kennel.
A beautiful photo by Sarah Geiger as Miss Athena flew right over her.
