Kewanee business owners received a significant policy update this week as the City Council passed an amendment to Ordinance §113.05. The new rule prohibits the sale, offering, or distribution of any THC-containing products—including Delta-8, Delta-9, and similar isomers—by anyone other than a state-licensed dispensary under the Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act. The measure aims to enhance safety, prevent sales to minors, and ensure compliance with state law. All unlicensed sales must stop by May 15, 2025, at 5 PM. Kewanee Police will distribute information and copies of the updated ordinance to local retailers in person.
Kewanee officials have approved a new amendment to tighten regulations on THC products sold within the city. The measure aims to ensure all products containing THC meet strict safety and quality standards, mirroring state-level cannabis laws. By imposing these regulations, authorities hope to curb the sale of intoxicating substances to minors and prevent unsuspecting consumers from purchasing potentially harmful or mislabeled items. This move follows growing concerns over the health risks associated with unregulated THC products. City leaders say the amendment is a proactive step to protect the public and support responsible cannabis use in Kewanee.
