The Kewanee City Council meeting on May 13th focused on critical updates to the city’s water system. Consultant Scott Desplinter, representing Crawford, Murphy & Tilly, outlined a plan for improving Kewanee’s potable water infrastructure. The discussion centered on meeting new Illinois EPA standards and upgrading aging facilities. Notably, Desplinter highlighted the city’s strong chance of securing a state loan for these improvements, made possible by Kewanee’s below-average household income and the number of water violation notifications. The council’s decisions will play a key role in ensuring clean, safe water for the community in the years ahead.
Council members approved the demolition lien for 601 O’Dea Street, a new tax increment financing loan for the Flemish Club, and funding for infrastructure near Gustafson Ford. In a celebratory note, proclamations honored local high school achievements in band, choir, FFA, and teaching, as well as Public Works Week.
