A late-night fire drew Kewanee Fire Department crews to the 600 block of E. 3rd Street on December 22, 2025, just before 11 PM. Fire personnel observed smoke coming from the second floor upon arrival and were able to quickly extinguish the flames. All residents and pets escaped unharmed before firefighters reached the scene. Eight firefighters, including two off-duty members, and support from the Kewanee Community Fire Protection District worked swiftly, confining fire damage to the bedroom upstairs, but there is smoke damage throughout the second floor. Crews spent roughly one hour and 20 minutes at the site, ensuring all hot spots were eliminated. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with no injuries reported.
