Two women were arrested in the physical altercation and gunshot that transpired at the Kewanee Shell gas station yesterday.  Kewanee Police responded to a disturbance at the Shell Gas Station on April 21, 2025, and witnessed two women involved in a physical altercation. Kahena Austin, 35, of Country Club Hills, and Danjanae Lindsey, 25, of Kewanee, were taken into custody and later transported to the Henry County Jail. Officers broke up the fight, but Danjanae Lindsey allegedly started assaulting a male subject who was assisting with breaking up the fight. During the confrontation, officials say Kahena Austin returned to her vehicle and discharged one round from her 9 mm handgun as she grabbed the gun while her one-year-old child was in the car. Austin immediately set the gun back down in her car. No injuries were reported at the scene. Austin remains detained and faces several charges related to the incident, including reckless discharge of a firearm and endangering the welfare of a child. The State’s Attorney’s office didn’t seek charges against Danjanae Lindsey. The State’s Attorney’s office filed a petition to deny pretrial release, and a detention hearing is scheduled for Austin this afternoon, April 22nd. Police later determined that Austin possessed a valid concealed carry permit.

**Update** The court determined that the state did not meet its burden to detain Kahena Austin. She was released with conditions. She was ordered to stay out of Kewanee, have no contact with the victim, and surrender her FOID card and concealed carry license. A Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for May 5, 2025, at 2 PM.

Kahena Austin is charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony), Endangering the Life or Health of a Child (Class 3 Felony), Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony), Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony), Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class A Misdemeanor).
